Avalakki Buvvalakki.....

I prepared these last weekend but was very busy (being jobless) to post them on the same day... So here you go..

Do you guys remember "Avalakki Buvvalakki Kanchina Mina mina ....."??? hehehe..... me n akka used to play this cute kiddo game when we were kids (ofcourse). My niece still does and bugs me to join her....i don remember all the lines but those who wana learn can contact her...look at her pic below ...cuuute isnt she???

Avalakki or Poha is also supposed to be Lord Krishna's fav food. There is even a story behind it in the Bhagwat Purana. Me n a friend were completely jobless and spent the saturday afternoon reading it :))) Those interested can find it in the link below. Its a good story about friendship between Krishna and his poor friend Sudama.

So here's how to make it....
Ingrediants: (serves 3)
1 1/2 cups Thick Avalakki/Beaten Rice (note: there are many varieties. You need to soak it depending on how thick the avalakki is)
1 medium sized Onion - Chopped fine
4 Green Chillies - Slit Lengthwisea few curry leaves
1 small Capsicum/Pepper - Washed, Deseeded and cut into cubes or thin strips (optional)Chopped Cilantro or Coriander Leaves for GarnishingGrated fresh Coconout for Garnishing1 tsp Sugar and Salt to taste

Seasoning:
2 tbsp Oil1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tsp Channa Dal/bengal gram
1 tsp Urad dal/Split Black Gram
1 tbsp Peanutsa
pinch of Hing
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder

Method:
1. Wash avalakki and soak in about 1 cup of water for about 15 to 20 minutes. Once the avalakki has been soaked or washed, add salt, sugar and grated coconut to this and mix well.
2. In a pan, heat the oil. Season with mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add the the peanuts and saute until slightly red. At this point add the dals. Saute for 1 more minute. Then add the chopped chillies, grated ginger, curry leaves and saute. Then add chopped onions and saute until transclucent.
3. Then add the chopped bell pepper and saute for another minute. Add turmeric powder and mix well.4. Add the Soaked avalakki mixture (avalakki+salt+sugar + coconut) and mix well. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
